WHAT: Take 50 minimalist photographs.

WHEN: Over the summer.  Due the first day of class.  Seems like a ways away, but it isn't.  Don't procrastinate.

CRITERIA:

  1. Read the following article by Valerie Jardin:
    1. http://digital-photography-school.com/minimalist-photography-4-tips-to-keep-it-simple-with-a-maximum-impact/
  2. Look through Valerie's photos in the article.  How is she using her 4 tips: composition, textures & colors, lines & geometric patterns and telling a story?
  3.  Look at the lighting in her photographs. Are things yellow? Gray? Are there hot spots from a flash or something too bright?
  4. Photograph, photograph, photograph. No one is restricting you to 50. I recommend shooting as much as possible.
  5. Look through your pictures and pick the best 50 shots to present to the class.
  6. Save 50 photos in google drive or on a thumb drive.
  7. Create a page in Bulb titled Minimalist Photography.

3. Take a Walk: Angles

Photography by Emily Krisky
WHAT: Create at least 50 photographs from various angles.

WHEN: Over the summer.  Due the first day of class.  Seems like a ways away, but it isn't.  Don't procrastinate.
CRITERIA:

  1. Read the following article from Digital Camera World:
    1. http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2013/03/20/camera-angles-5-ways-to-add-impact-with-unusual-perspectives/
  2. Take 10 photographs that explore each of the 5 angles described in the article. When photographing you can combine techniques, but you can't double count.  For example you can twist and shoot straight up, but it will count for 1 of your 50 photographs.
    1. Straight Up (tilt the camera toward the sky or at an angle toward the sky)
    2. Twist (twist your camera in your hand so the horizon line is at an angle)
    3. Down Low (lay on the ground or put the camera on the ground)
    4. Exaggerate (get very close to things to create emphasis or drama)
    5. Kneel (photograph on your knees)
  3. Create folders in Google Drive or on your thumb drive for each type of angle.
  4. Create a page in Bulb titled Minimalist Photography.
  5. Upload your 5 best photographs.
  6. Bring all 50 photographs with you to the first day of class (google drive or thumb drive).
