Summer: Traditional Media (Drawing or 2D)

1. In the Style of an Art Movement



WHAT:
For this project you will produce a landscape, portrait, or still life in the style of a significant art movement.  Some examples include Surrealism, Cubism, Pop Art, Constructivism, and many others.  Google art movements and you will find a lot of examples.  Choose a style/movement that fits your subject and personality.

WHEN:  Over the summer.  Due the first day of class.

CRITERIA:
  • MEDIUM: Pen and Ink on paper, Pencil on paper, or Paint on Canvas
  • SIZE: 11x17 or LARGER (smaller will NOT be accepted for credit)
  • Noteworthy: Do not smudge with your fingers. Do not use printer paper.
2. 30 Minis

WHAT: 
Create 30 minis. 4” by 4”.
Show variety, understanding of contrast & emphasis.
Demonstrate excellent craftsmanship.Show variety. Be clever with your materials.

WHEN:  Over the summer.  Due the first day of class.

3. FAMILY PORTRAIT THROUGH OBJECTS
WHAT:
Create a still life of your family member's shoes. Try to convey a sense of each of your family member's distinct personalities in your piece. You can use a different set of objects, but you cannot mix objects.  For example you could represent your family members with keys or different drinking glasses.  If you use keys for one member then you should use keys for every member.
